Men in Drag
Men in Drag (no men, occasional drag) is an all-female student a cappella group at the University of Chicago, signed to A Cappella Records. The members of Men in Drag embrace all that the name implies, challenging gender conventions, bringing sass and class to all-female a cappella, and holding themselves to a high standard of modern musical entertainment. Whether they are rocking out in ties or high-heels, the ladies of Men in Drag are always ready to shake things up.
In 2009, Men in Drag released their first professionally-produced album, “No Pants, No Problem,” (available on iTunes and Amazon). Their recording of “Almost Lover” was one of A Cappella Records’ most downloaded tracks in 2010. In 2011, Men in Drag released their first single, “On the Wing,” which was selected for the 2011 edition of international compilation album, Voices Only, and won the 2012 CARA in the category of “Best Female Collegiate Arrangement.” In April 2012, Men in Drag filmed their first-ever music video, and traveled to Boston to compete in the Boston Sings Festival Collegiate Competition, where they placed fourth.
In 2012-13, Men in Drag is looking forward to co-hosting the CASA-produced AcappellaFest at UChicago in October, releasing their seventh album, “Late Nights, Parades,” and touring the Midwest in December, submitting to compete in the ICCA in winter, hosting their annual Pie-Date Auction in April, and celebrating their 15-year anniversary in June.
