Jeff Smith
Born and raised in the Midwest, Jeff began his professional music career immediately after high school as a musician for the 312th Army Band in Lawrence, KS. While attending the University of Kansas on bassoon scholarship, he divided his time as principal bassoonist for the instrumental program and tenor vocalist for the university’s top choral ensembles (as well as Sousaphone player for the marching band and basketball pep band).
While at KU, Jeff sang in several extra-curricular vocal groups before forming his own group during his senior year. Beginning as a fun hobby and side project, measureXmeasure ("measure by measure") quickly grew into a full-time profession. Jeff enjoyed 8 adventurous years with mXm, touring more than 30 U.S states and releasing 3 CDs. He also acted as the group’s primary arranger, producer, artistic director, and booking agent. In 2004, Jeff relocated to Los Angeles to join the critically-acclaimed vocal group m-pact. Since then, he has toured all over the world performing in venues ranging from jazz clubs and festivals to concert halls and opera houses.
Jeff is also a proud member of the U.S. Army Reserve, and is the Commander and conductor of the 300th Army Band in Los Angeles. When not harmonizing and beatboxing with m-pact or making music for Uncle Sam, he enjoys being a freelance musician-for-hire for live performances and recording sessions of all kinds. Jeff’s voice can be heard on TV and motion picture soundtracks, and he is also the Music Director at Citylight Church in downtown L.A. Jeff lives in the San Fernando Valley with his wife Heather and son Noah
